34.4 – Treating Minor Cuts and Burns Safely: Treating minor cuts and burns safely prevents infection and promotes healing. For small cuts, wash your hands first, clean the wound gently with water, and apply antiseptic. Cover with a sterile bandage and change it daily. For burns, run cool (not cold) water over the area for several minutes—never use ice, butter, or ointments on fresh burns. If a burn blisters, avoid popping it to reduce infection risk. Watch for redness or swelling, which may need medical attention. Keep calm, act quickly, and handle wounds with care. Understanding these basic techniques builds confidence in your ability to protect yourself and others from harm. Preparedness replaces panic with calm, informed action.
