Lesson Overview

5.6 – Using an Oven for Basic Cooking Tasks: The oven offers powerful heat that can create delicious meals or cause danger when ignored. Always preheat to the right temperature and use oven mitts to handle trays or pans. Keep flammable materials like paper, foil, or dish towels far away from heating elements. When opening the door, step aside slightly to avoid the rush of hot air. Using timers ensures you never forget what’s inside, reducing the chance of burning food or creating smoke. Cleaning baked-on grease prevents odors and reduces fire risk. Avoid lining the bottom with foil, as that can block airflow or reflect heat unevenly. Learn where racks belong for even baking and understand that glass pans may heat differently than metal. Respecting the oven’s power makes every meal safer and more rewarding. Responsible users check settings twice, stay patient, and treat the process as both art and discipline.
