Lesson Overview

1.207 – Preventing Escalation by Noticing Thought Spirals: Crisis rarely explodes suddenly—it builds through repeated thoughts looping faster than awareness. Learning to spot early spirals gives you the chance to step off before momentum takes over. Notice patterns like “what-if” stacking or mental replaying of worst-case scenes. Interrupt with grounding cues: say your name, describe your surroundings, or move your body deliberately. This break re-routes attention from imagination to observation. Thought spirals feed on silence, but spoken interruptions starve them. Keep replacement phrases ready, such as “that’s a thought, not a fact.” The key is to respond to thinking the way you’d respond to a loud alarm—acknowledge, then lower the volume. Each interruption retrains your brain to slow its spin, creating space for rational choice. Over time, you’ll recognize spirals as invitations to pause, not proofs of danger.
