1.6 – Coping With Emotional Storms You Don’t Understand: Sometimes emotions crash in without warning like weather you didn’t forecast. You might cry, rage, or freeze without knowing why. Instead of fighting confusion, treat feelings as signals, not threats. Name what’s happening out loud — “I’m overwhelmed,” “I’m scared,” or “I’m numb.” Labeling turns chaos into data your brain can work with. Then ground your body — touch something cold, breathe, or move slowly. Understanding doesn’t have to come first; calm can come before clarity. Keep a journal of triggers afterward to see patterns forming. When you see repetition, you gain direction. Remember that emotional storms mean your system is trying to release pressure, not punish you. The goal isn’t to erase the storm but to ride it safely until skies shift. Every storm passes faster when you stop running from the rain and start steering through it.
