Lesson Overview

1.6 – When Anger Explodes: Skills to Defuse It: Anger is energy that builds when needs aren’t met or boundaries are crossed. When it explodes, it can damage trust, relationships, and self-respect. But anger itself isn’t the problem—it’s how it’s managed. Learning to spot tension early can prevent outbursts before they happen. Notice your triggers: clenched fists, raised voice, or racing heart. These cues are invitations to step back, breathe, or change your environment. Count to ten slowly, unclench your jaw, or step outside to shift your body’s chemistry. Using “I feel” statements instead of accusations can lower the emotional temperature. Anger carries information about what matters to you; defusing it means hearing the message without harming yourself or others. Over time, these skills turn anger into a force for change, not chaos.
