Lesson Overview

1.18 – The Morning After: Helping Kids After a Domestic Crisis: After any household crisis, morning carries emotional residue. Children often act quiet, clingy, or unusually cheerful—all coping in disguise. Begin the day with gentleness, not interrogation. Offer breakfast, eye contact, and reassurance that everyone is safe. Avoid rehashing arguments; focus on restoring rhythm and calm. Validate fear but shift attention toward healing routines—school preparation, music, sunlight. Explain that adults are handling safety so kids can focus on learning and play. If possible, engage supportive adults like teachers to watch for distress signals. The first normal day after chaos teaches that life continues and recovery is real. Every calm morning rebuilt after violence becomes silent proof that security can grow again one small, loving act at a time.
