It’s the brain’s way of shielding you from overwhelming stress, but it can leave you disconnected from reality. To feel real again, engage your senses—run cold water on your hands, smell something strong, or say your name out loud. Move your body, stretch, or walk to remind your brain that you’re present. Describe your surroundings in detail to anchor your awareness. After grounding, rest without judgment; re-entry takes energy. Writing what happened afterward helps track triggers and progress. Let trusted people know how to help you back if it happens again. The more you practice returning gently to the moment, the more control you gain over your presence. You are here, and that matters.
