Lesson Overview

1.14 – Coping with Loud Noises After a Fight: After an argument, loud sounds can make your body jump as if danger is still there. This reaction is natural — your brain is protecting you from anything that feels similar to the fight. To calm down, lower the lights and reduce noise where you can. Soft music or white noise can fill silence in a way that feels safe again. Hold something steady like a pillow, pet, or object with texture and breathe until your shoulders loosen. If a sudden sound triggers you, name what it is aloud — “that’s a door slam, not anger” — to separate past fear from present reality. Avoid replaying the fight in your head; instead, replace it with a grounding thought like “I’m safe now.” Each time you stay calm through noise, your brain relearns peace. Recovery means teaching your body that the storm has already passed.
