1.3 – Coping Cards: A DIY Guide: Coping cards are like personal lifelines you design in advance for moments when stress feels unmanageable. They’re small notes or digital reminders that list your calming strategies, comforting words, or motivating truths. When your mind feels flooded, reading from a card helps you remember tools you already know but might forget in crisis. Each card can focus on a specific situation—panic, anger, sadness, or self-doubt—and offer a direct plan for what to do. You might write, “Take deep breaths,” “Call my support person,” or “This feeling will pass.” The power lies in preparation: you create these cards when calm so they guide you when you’re not. Carrying them in your pocket, phone, or journal gives you immediate access to hope and direction. Seeing your own handwriting can reinforce that past-you cared for present-you enough to help. This small act builds trust in your ability to survive tough emotions and stay anchored through chaos. Coping cards turn knowledge into action and replace panic with structure. They remind you that even in darkness, you have built-in light you can reach for.
