Lesson Overview

1.06 – Sleep and Depression Crisis: During depression, sleep becomes both an escape and a battleground. Some nights you can’t rest at all; others you sleep for hours yet wake up exhausted. Sleep and mood feed each other, creating cycles that deepen despair. Rebuilding sleep starts with structure—consistent times for rest, reduced screens before bed, and grounding rituals that signal safety. Breathing exercises or calming sounds can retrain the body to slow down. If nightmares or racing thoughts interrupt rest, write them down and leave them on paper instead of carrying them into bed. Avoid caffeine and large meals late in the evening, and if medication affects sleep, discuss adjustments with your doctor. Rest isn’t laziness; it’s medical recovery for your mind. Every good night rebuilds chemical balance and decision-making strength. Protecting sleep is part of protecting your sanity. You can’t heal if you’re running on fumes, and small improvements in sleep often mark the first signs of emotional return.
