Lesson Overview

1.13 – Planning for Nights When You Can’t Sleep and the Baby Is Up: Exhaustion turns ordinary stress into crisis, especially during endless nights. Preparing for sleepless hours keeps panic from taking over. Keep low-light lamps instead of harsh overhead bulbs to calm senses. Create a small midnight station with diapers, water, and snacks within reach to avoid frantic searching. Have soft music or white noise ready to maintain rhythm for both your breathing and the baby’s. When frustration rises, sit down and count slow exhales until your pulse steadies. Tell yourself, “I’m tired, not broken.” If tears come, let them; emotional release reduces tension faster than resistance. Rotate soothing activities—rocking, humming, gentle swaying—to keep motion calm and consistent. Avoid checking clocks; time pressure increases anxiety. Remember, fatigue is temporary, but gentleness leaves lasting memory. Survival through the night is achievement, not inadequacy. Rest will return, and your patience through exhaustion builds lifelong stability.
