1.15 – What to Say When Someone Scares You: Fear freezes words, but learning short, powerful sentences can protect you when someone crosses a line. Practice phrases like “Please stop,” “I don’t feel safe,” or “I’m leaving now,” until they come out strong even when your heart races. Keep your tone firm but not aggressive; confidence makes people listen faster than shouting. If they keep pushing, step back and look for exits or others nearby while calling attention to the behavior — fear shrinks when witnesses appear. Later, write down what happened so you remember facts clearly if you need to report it. Talking to a trusted adult or counselor afterward releases leftover tension so it doesn’t build. Remember: bravery doesn’t always mean fighting — sometimes it means using calm words that protect your boundaries. Safety begins with knowing you have the right to speak up and be heard.
