Lesson Overview

1.19 – How to Slow Down Racing Thoughts in a Crisis: When panic races through your mind, thoughts collide like traffic with no lights. The first step to slowing them is physical grounding—feel your feet, notice air on your skin, name five objects around you. This tells your nervous system it’s safe enough to pause. Next, choose one simple thought to focus on, like “I’m breathing” or “This moment will pass.” Repetition slows the storm. If your mind resists, write the thought instead of saying it; handwriting naturally steadies rhythm. Avoid arguing with panic—comfort it instead, like calming a frightened child. Drink water slowly, stretch, or hum softly to regulate breath. Every small action signals control returning. Over time, your brain learns that spiraling is optional, not inevitable. Calm isn’t absence of fear; it’s training your thoughts to move at a pace your heart can handle.
