Lesson Overview

1.39 – Coping With Emotional Flashbacks While Parenting: Flashbacks blur time, dragging old pain into the present without warning. When they strike mid-parenting, first orient to now—say your name, the date, your child’s name, the color of the room. This anchors your brain to current safety. Hold something textured—a blanket edge or toy—to reinforce reality. If vision tunnels, focus on a stable sound like your child’s breathing or a ticking clock. Do not shame yourself; trauma responses are involuntary echoes, not weakness. When clarity returns, tell your toddler gently that you needed a moment to calm your thoughts. Engage grounding through movement—walking, stretching, slow swaying. Seek professional guidance when flashbacks repeat often. Healing past wounds while nurturing new life is profound resilience. Each successful return to the present strengthens both survivor and parent within you.
