1.42 – Crisis Skills for Teens in Court or Foster Care: Facing court or foster care can feel like stepping into a world where you have no control. But you still have power in how you show up. Dress neatly, speak respectfully, and listen closely to what’s said around you. Ask questions when you don’t understand something—clarity builds confidence. Keep documents and contacts organized in a folder so you don’t feel lost. Remember that adults in the system may not know your full story; you can calmly share your truth over time. Take notes after meetings so you remember who promised what. If you’re in foster care, find one trusted adult who actually listens; that person becomes your anchor. Your voice matters, even in rooms full of authority. Professionalism and calm can open doors that anger might close. The more prepared you appear, the less powerless you’ll feel.
