Lesson Overview

1.8 – Emotional Overwhelm and How to Ground Yourself: When emotions stack up, it can feel like you’re drowning in sensations you can’t name. Grounding reconnects you to the present moment so your mind stops spinning. The five-senses method—naming what you see, hear, touch, taste, and smell—anchors you in the here and now. Feel your feet on the ground, notice the air on your skin, or take a sip of water. These small details tell your brain that the danger is passing. Grounding is not about ignoring feelings but slowing them down until they’re manageable. Overwhelm shrinks when you build trust in your ability to return to the present. Each grounding moment teaches your body that calm is not gone—it’s recoverable. The more you practice, the faster balance returns.
