1.7 – How to Keep Everyone Safe When Your Teen Is Violent: Violence in the home demands calm coordination, not chaos. First, position yourself between exits and safety zones, not between your teen and anger. Use open body language, lower voice pitch, and avoid blocking movement. Remove other children and pets discreetly to reduce potential harm. Avoid touching your teen during escalation; physical restraint without training can trigger worse aggression. If danger escalates, exit and call emergency help without hesitation — safety outweighs pride. Later, document triggers, sequence of events, and injuries for clinical review. Coordinate with professionals on de-escalation scripts customized to your teen’s patterns. Celebrate non-violent resolution moments to reinforce peaceful control. Keeping everyone safe is not about dominance but containment and compassion. The goal is survival first, recovery second, and prevention third — in that exact order.
