Lesson Overview

1.02 – Panic in Public: A Survival Toolkit: When panic strikes in public, your body feels like it’s betraying you—heart racing, hands shaking, mind spinning. The key is to shift from fear of the reaction to managing the moment. Ground by naming five things you see, four you touch, three you hear, two you smell, one you taste. This keeps your brain anchored in the present instead of spiraling into “what ifs.” Sit if possible, breathe through your nose slowly, and remind yourself that panic feels dangerous but isn’t deadly. No one around you is judging as harshly as you think; most people won’t even notice. Repeating a calming phrase like “I’m safe, this will pass” rewires panic into awareness. Carry a discreet grounding object—like a smooth stone or bracelet—to cue your mind that control is returning. Each time you navigate public panic successfully, confidence grows. Panic loses power when you expect it, face it, and move through it instead of fleeing.
