Lesson Overview

1.22 – How to Ground Yourself When You’re Spiraling: Spiraling happens when stress multiplies and thoughts race faster than reason. Grounding helps slow that cycle before panic takes over. Start by naming five things you see, four you can touch, three you hear, two you smell, and one you taste. This simple exercise reclaims your focus from chaos. Next, use slow, deep breathing to steady your body’s alarm system. Repeat affirmations like “I’m safe right now” or “This will pass.” Movement—walking, stretching, or holding something cold—anchors you to the present. If thoughts keep looping, write them down to release them from your mind. Every time you ground successfully, your brain learns calm is possible. Practicing daily, even when calm, makes grounding automatic when crisis hits. Safety starts with noticing that your body can still return to peace.
