Lesson Overview

1.5 – Coping with Emotional Flooding: Emotional flooding happens when feelings become so intense that thinking clearly feels impossible. Your body surges with hormones like cortisol, your heart races, and words may blur together. It’s not overreacting—it’s your nervous system trying to keep up with too much input at once. The best first step is to pause everything and focus on slowing your breathing. Move to a quieter space if possible and give yourself permission to cool down before solving anything. Cold water, deep breaths, or soft textures can help you regulate. When your emotions flood, logic temporarily steps aside; you can’t reason your way out until calm returns. Understanding this helps you act with compassion toward yourself and others. The goal isn’t to avoid emotion but to create conditions where you can process it safely and with clarity.
