Lesson Overview

1.3 – Planning Safety When You Can’t Leave Yet: Some parents must remain in unsafe or unstable environments longer than they want, so proactive safety planning becomes survival intelligence. Memorize emergency numbers, pack essential documents discreetly, and identify code words with your children for immediate danger. Map exits, practice calm leaving drills at low-stress times, and decide neutral meeting spots. Hide spare essentials in multiple locations, not one bag that could be found. Build silent support networks—trusted teachers, neighbors, or relatives who can check in without alerting others. Emotional preparation matters too: reassure children that fear doesn’t equal failure. Every small plan reduces helplessness and restores a sense of agency. When leaving becomes possible, your practiced calm under pressure becomes their blueprint for courage and strategic thinking that can save lives.
