Lesson Overview

1.22 – Coping With Feeling Disconnected From Your Body: Detachment can feel like floating above yourself, watching life instead of living it. This disconnection often follows shock or exhaustion. To re-anchor, focus on sensory data—cold water on skin, textured fabric, or steady walking rhythm. Speak grounding phrases: “My feet are on the floor. My breath is real.” Touch walls, describe colors, count heartbeats. Movement re-teaches your brain where you are. Avoid caffeine or fast scrolling; both heighten disconnection. When thoughts drift, gently pull focus to present tasks—washing dishes, drawing lines, organizing objects. These tangible acts rebuild awareness. Remember, dissociation is your mind’s emergency brake, not insanity. Treat it with patience, not fear. Over time, gentle grounding turns distance back into presence until you feel fully inside your own skin again.
