Lesson Overview

1.61 – Defusing Conflict When You Feel Attacked: Feeling attacked sparks defense, yet diffusion relies on listening, not countering. Acknowledge emotion before content—“I can tell this matters to you.” This acknowledgment lowers cortisol faster than rebuttal. Keep tone even and breathing visible. Step back subtly to signal non-threat. Avoid absolute words like “always” or “never.” Redirect toward shared goals: “We both want resolution.” If hostility persists, state intent to pause respectfully. Afterward, process your emotions separately before re-engaging. Defusing conflict is tactical empathy—protecting both sides from escalation. Mastery lies in staying curious while under verbal fire. The calmer you remain, the shorter the battle lasts. Respectful endurance becomes invisible armor that shields peace without surrendering self-worth.
