Lesson Overview

1.11 – When You and Your Child Are Both Overwhelmed: When both you and your child reach emotional limits at the same time, calm feels impossible—but regulation can still be rebuilt step by step. Start by naming the tension out loud to break silence’s power. Lower expectations for the moment; survival replaces performance. Sit down together, breathe slowly, and use grounding cues like touching a cool surface or counting breaths. When your child sees you calm yourself rather than explode, they learn emotional safety isn’t about perfection but repair. Post-crisis, talk about what each of you needed instead of what went wrong. Build recovery rituals—warm tea, soft music, quiet cuddles—to reset nervous systems faster next time. Overwhelm shared with honesty becomes connection instead of chaos, modeling endurance through empathy and patience under pressure.
