1.19 – Coping With a Panic Attack in a Group Setting: Panic attacks in public can feel terrifying because your fear seems visible to everyone. When it starts, focus on small physical anchors—press your thumb and finger together or count objects in the room. Slow breathing is your reset button; inhale through your nose for four counts and exhale for six. Remind yourself that panic feels dangerous but isn’t fatal. If possible, excuse yourself quietly and find a calmer space. Having a grounding object, like a smooth stone or bracelet, gives you privacy to self-soothe. Tell one trusted person what’s happening so you’re not alone. Afterward, review what helped most so you can repeat it. Each time you survive panic in public, you’re training your body to trust your control. Courage isn’t never panicking—it’s choosing to stay through the wave until peace returns.
