Lesson Overview

1.9 – Understanding the Trauma Loop: The trauma loop is the cycle where a painful memory triggers fear, the body reacts, and the mind misreads that reaction as new danger—starting the loop again. This cycle keeps stress hormones active long after the event is over. Breaking the loop starts with recognizing it. When you notice a reaction like a racing heart or tight stomach, pause and remind yourself that the threat is in the past. Naming what’s happening reduces its intensity. Grounding, breathing, or journaling helps your brain store the memory safely instead of reliving it. Over time, you learn that your feelings are echoes, not alarms. Healing means teaching your nervous system that safety exists now. Every time you interrupt the loop, you’re rewiring your body’s story from survival to recovery.
