Lesson Overview

1.1 – What to Do When You’re Scared and Alone: Feeling scared and alone can make the world seem too big, but safety starts with small, steady actions that bring control back to you. Begin by slowing your breathing — counting slowly helps your body calm before your mind follows. Look around for safe places, like a neighbor’s house, a friend’s porch, or a lighted store. Remember, fear often grows when you think you’re trapped, but movement and connection shrink it fast. Saying your feelings out loud, even to yourself, releases tension you didn’t realize you were holding. Keep a short list of names or numbers you trust — adults, relatives, or hotlines — because reaching out is a sign of strength, not weakness. When you make a simple plan for what to do next, your brain feels protected and ready to think clearly. Fear fades fastest when replaced with clear steps, calm breathing, and knowing help exists even when it feels far away. No one stays scared forever; safety grows one calm thought at a time.
