Lesson Overview

1.11 – Making a “Calm Down” Corner at Home: A calm-down corner is a space that tells the body it’s okay to slow down. Fill it with comforting items like blankets, coloring tools, or a playlist of soft music. This space teaches kids that stepping away to reset is healthy, not punishment. Parents can model its use by taking turns sitting there during stress. The goal isn’t silence—it’s self-soothing and reflection. Encourage your child to decorate it so they feel ownership of their peace zone. Using the same place every time builds a brain association between that corner and calm feelings. Over time, the body begins to relax faster just by sitting there. It becomes a daily reminder that peace is something we practice, not something we wait for.
