Lesson Overview

1.3 – When You Feel Like Running Away Again: Feeling the urge to run away usually means you want to escape pain, not life itself. Your body believes distance will fix the problem, but real relief comes from safety, not distance. Start by sitting down, grounding yourself with what you see, hear, and feel around you—this tells your mind you are still here and not trapped. Create a “stay list” of people, songs, or pets that remind you you’re worth protecting. When everything feels too much, call or text one safe person or helpline instead of packing a bag. Running might feel freeing for a moment, but being unprotected can make fear return stronger. Instead, plan where you can go safely—a friend’s porch, a school counselor, or even a park bench where you can think. Promise yourself you’ll check in with someone before deciding your next move. Strength is not in leaving—it’s in staying long enough to find a better path forward.
