1.33 – Surviving a Panic Attack With a Toddler on Your Lap: Panic attacks while holding your child can feel terrifying, but slow physiology beats racing thought. Keep your arms low and secure, preventing sudden grip. Whisper slow counting aloud—“one, two”—to guide both breathing rhythms together. Focus on your exhale being longer than inhale to lower heart rate. Visualize warmth flowing from your chest to theirs, reminding yourself of life’s continuity. Anchor to physical details: their hair texture, their breathing pace, the floor beneath you. Tell yourself, “This feeling passes, we are safe.” Keep movement minimal; rocking can steady balance gently. After symptoms fade, drink water and stretch fingers to discharge residual tension. Treat your recovery as strength, not weakness. Your toddler learns that calm can return after storms. Every panic survived becomes practice in resilience—for you first, and soon mirrored by them.
