Lesson Overview

1.12 – Safety First: Removing Objects When You Lose Control: When anger rises suddenly, your environment can turn dangerous faster than your thoughts can catch up. Creating a safety routine ahead of time protects both you and your toddler. Scan rooms for sharp, heavy, or throwable objects and move them out of reach during stressful hours. Keep breakables high and out of sight. If you feel your hands tense, step back and grip something soft instead—a pillow, towel, or blanket—to redirect the impulse safely. Train yourself to pause before movement, not after damage. Whisper a grounding word or phrase that signals “stop now.” Even small safeguards—closed drawers, cleared tables, open space—build emotional security. Your child learns through your preparation that protection starts with awareness. Reassure yourself afterward that preventing harm is victory, not failure. The goal is not to erase anger but to make it powerless to hurt. Each safe response rewires control.
