Lesson Overview

1.24 – Keeping Your Toddler Safe When You’re Mentally Unwell: Mental health struggles can blur judgment, so pre-planning safety is a sign of responsibility, not weakness. Designate a trusted friend or relative as an emergency contact who understands your situation. Store child essentials within easy reach to avoid frantic movements when energy drops. Baby-proof rooms more thoroughly during good days to reduce risk later. Keep comfort items visible for your child and grounding tools for yourself like aromatherapy or weighted blankets. If dark thoughts arise, move to a neutral space with light and call support immediately. Tell your child simply that you’re resting so they don’t absorb fear. Safety is built from structure, not perfection. Protecting them while healing yourself is the bravest parenting act. Prepared environments make stability possible even through mental storms.
