Lesson Overview

1.24 – What to Do When You Feel Like Hurting Yourself: When pain turns inward, it can feel like hurting yourself is the only way to control what’s happening inside. That urge doesn’t make you bad—it means you need relief. Start by delaying the action and doing something that releases tension safely, like squeezing ice, drawing, or breathing slowly. Tell someone you trust or reach out to a crisis line; connection interrupts isolation. Write down what you wish you could change instead of acting on impulse. Remind yourself that feelings are temporary even when they feel endless. Remove objects that could harm you and stay around people if possible. Each time you resist the urge, your brain learns survival over self-destruction. Healing doesn’t erase pain but replaces it with tools that protect your life while you recover.
