1.39 – Managing the Fear of Being Taken Away (CPS, Police, Etc.): Fear of being removed from your home can cause constant anxiety, especially when adults argue or threats are made. The truth is, these systems exist to keep you safe, not to punish you. If you’re afraid, talk to a school counselor or trusted adult who can explain what’s actually happening. Make sure you know your rights and have important documents or numbers written down in case you need them. Deep breathing and reality checks help keep panic from spinning into worst-case scenarios. Write down what’s within your control—staying calm, telling the truth, and seeking safe support. Remember, fear grows in silence, but understanding shrinks it. If you are taken somewhere new, focus on immediate safety, not guilt or blame. You are not broken—you are surviving through systems that were made to protect lives like yours.
