Lesson Overview

1.13 – Surviving Crisis Without Your Mom or Dad: When a crisis hits and your parents aren’t there, the fear feels sharper because the person who usually protects you isn’t available. But safety can still be built from your own choices and the support of others. Identify safe adults nearby — a neighbor, school staff, or friend’s parent — who can step in until help arrives. Keep emergency contacts written down in your phone and wallet so you don’t rely on memory during stress. Talk to yourself calmly, saying, “I know what to do next,” to replace panic with direction. It’s okay to miss your parent’s comfort while still acting strong; courage doesn’t cancel love. When the situation settles, reach out to reconnect or debrief with a counselor so those feelings don’t stay bottled up. Every moment you manage responsibly without them adds confidence that you can stand tall, even when alone.
