Lesson Overview

1.6 – When You’re Afraid of Your Own Child: Admitting fear toward your child feels shameful, yet it’s often the silent truth behind many crises. Fear does not mean failure; it signals that danger must be addressed with strategy. Begin by separating emotional fear from physical risk. Identify patterns — time of day, topics, tone — that precede intimidation. Secure potential weapons and establish rooms for safety exits. Do not face violent behavior alone; involve family, crisis lines, or law enforcement when needed. Maintain calm authority — short directives like “I need space” protect both sides better than arguing. Later, explore therapy focusing on family trauma and power dynamics. Prioritize your safety as you would theirs; fear ignored becomes risk multiplied. Courage is not confronting rage unprotected — it’s creating a plan that ensures everyone survives to rebuild trust tomorrow.
