Lesson Overview

1.4 – What to Do When You’re Afraid to Go Home: Fear of going home can weigh heavy when home doesn’t feel like comfort. Begin by identifying what exactly feels unsafe—is it anger, shouting, or unpredictability? Knowing what triggers fear helps you plan better. Keep a list of safe adults or numbers you can contact if things get out of hand. Before entering the house, breathe slowly and imagine wrapping yourself in calm energy that separates you from the chaos. Have a small escape plan: a neighbor, a library, or even a store where you can step out if things escalate. If you’re truly in danger, it’s okay to reach out to authorities or crisis lines—they exist to keep you alive, not to get you in trouble. Keep your belongings like ID, keys, and essentials in one small bag. Each time you protect your safety, you build evidence that you matter. Fear loses power when you create choices instead of only reactions.
