Lesson Overview

1.14 – Helping Your Child Understand the Police Visit: When police arrive after an emergency, children often feel frightened or confused. Explain calmly that officers’ job is to keep people safe and make sure everyone is okay. Use simple language to describe what’s happening so they don’t imagine worse. If an arrest or report occurs, avoid labeling anyone as “bad.” Instead, focus on fairness, safety, and following rules. Reassure your child that their feelings are valid even when events are serious. Afterward, invite conversation and answer questions honestly. Turning a police visit into a learning moment helps children process fear with facts. Understanding authority through empathy builds trust in systems without blind fear or resentment.
