🧘🏽 Emotional Regulation & Coping Skills *coming soon *coming soon
Course overview
Lesson Overview

1.201 – Managing personal anger in parent–adult child dynamics: Anger between a parent and adult child can feel especially painful because it touches years of shared history. Managing it starts by noticing when old roles try to take over—like reacting as a frustrated parent or rebellious child instead of two adults. Breathing deeply before responding helps slow emotional reactions. Using “I” statements such as “I feel disrespected when…” can open space for dialogue. Listening for understanding instead of defense builds trust and mutual respect. It’s also helpful to set clear boundaries around topics that spark repeated tension. Remember that independence doesn’t cancel connection; both sides can learn to communicate needs calmly. Taking short breaks during heated exchanges prevents hurtful words. Practice forgiveness, even for small moments, to keep resentment from growing. Over time, consistency and empathy repair strained bonds and create a more adult-to-adult relationship.
