32.6 – The Role of Forgiveness in Healing Trauma: When you’ve been deeply hurt or traumatized, forgiveness can feel impossible. Trauma changes how your brain and body respond to safety, trust, and control. Forgiveness in this context doesn’t mean erasing what happened; it means reclaiming your power from what was done to you. It allows you to move forward without the past owning your emotions. Healing begins when you stop carrying the pain of others as your burden. Forgiveness is a step toward self-liberation, not forgetting or excusing harm. It teaches your nervous system that peace is possible again. It can soften fear, rebuild hope, and help your body relax into recovery. Through therapy, self-reflection, or mindfulness, forgiveness can become part of your emotional repair process. It’s a gradual journey of courage that helps trauma survivors rewrite their story from one of pain to one of power.
