Course overview
Lesson Overview

30.14 – Nightmares and Sleep Disturbances After Trauma: Sleep can become difficult because trauma teaches the brain that resting isn’t safe. Nightmares replay pieces of what happened, keeping you on alert. You might wake up sweating or afraid to fall back asleep. Lack of rest makes emotions stronger and healing harder. Creating a calm bedtime routine helps signal safety to your body. Soft lights, breathing exercises, or writing before bed can reduce racing thoughts. Sometimes therapy or gentle medication support may help too. Over time, as your body feels safer, sleep begins to return naturally. Rest is part of recovery—it reminds your mind that peace is possible again.
