Lesson Overview

8.13 – Shame and People-Pleasing Behaviors: People-pleasing often comes from a deep desire to avoid shame or rejection. You might say yes when you want to say no, or hide your needs to keep others happy. This behavior may seem kind, but it usually comes from fear, not love. When your worth feels tied to others’ approval, shame grows stronger each time you ignore yourself. Over time, people-pleasing can lead to resentment and burnout. Learning to set boundaries doesn’t make you selfish—it makes you honest. Real relationships thrive when both people can be authentic. Saying no with respect is a way of saying yes to yourself. Each time you honor your truth, you weaken shame’s control and build self-respect.
