Lesson Overview

7.9 – Distinguishing Panic from Medical Emergencies: Panic can mimic medical problems like heart attacks, making it confusing and frightening. Chest pain, tingling, and shortness of breath can appear in both. Learning to recognize the difference can reduce unnecessary fear and trips to the ER. Medical emergencies usually come with physical causes or risks, while panic fades within minutes without harm. If you’ve ruled out health issues, reminding yourself “this is panic” helps ease the fear. Keeping track of your episodes can show that the pattern always ends safely. You can still get checked when unsure, but trust grows as you see the cycle repeat. Each safe experience teaches your brain that panic is temporary, not deadly. Over time, your confidence returns, and the panic loses its grip.
