Lesson Overview

3.20 – Loss and the Mind: Intrusive Thoughts and Memories: After loss, the mind can replay moments endlessly—what was said, what could have been different, what you wish you’d done. These intrusive thoughts are part of grief trying to make sense of pain. They can feel overwhelming but usually fade as your brain adjusts. It helps to gently redirect focus with grounding techniques, deep breaths, or creative outlets. Writing or speaking thoughts aloud can lessen their power. Over time, memories shift from haunting to honoring. Each wave of thought teaches your mind how to release. You don’t need to erase memories to move forward—you just need to make peace with them. Healing comes when the past stops controlling the present.
