Course overview
Lesson Overview

14.5 – Acute vs. Chronic Stress: Stress can come and go quickly or stay for a long time, and both kinds affect you differently. Acute stress is the short-term type—it happens during an argument, a test, or a sudden event. Your heart beats faster, your mind focuses sharply, and your body reacts quickly. Once the situation passes, your system calms back down. Chronic stress, however, sticks around for weeks or months without relief. It can come from ongoing problems like financial pressure, family conflict, or constant worry. Over time, chronic stress wears down your energy, mood, and health. It can make you feel like you’re always tense, even during quiet moments. Understanding which kind you’re facing helps you choose the right way to recover. Acute stress may need quick relaxation or breathing, while chronic stress needs lifestyle balance and support. Both deserve attention because your body feels every bit of it. The goal is not to avoid all stress but to shorten how long it stays and how deeply it affects you.
