8.22 – Shame and the Fear of Being “Found Out”: The fear of being “found out” comes from the belief that others will discover you’re not as good as they think. Shame creates this hidden anxiety, making you feel like a fraud even when you succeed. It’s the root of impostor syndrome. You might overprepare, downplay success, or avoid attention to stay safe. But this fear is based on illusion, not truth. Everyone has doubts; the difference is whether you let them control you. When you admit your imperfections, you take away shame’s power to expose you. Authenticity invites trust because it shows courage, not weakness. Accepting your humanity helps you realize you never needed to hide in the first place.
