13.16 – Depression and the Fear of Being a Burden: Many people with depression worry they’re a weight on others, even when no one has said so. That fear grows because depression twists how you see your worth and how you think others view you. When energy is low, people may rely more on friends or family, which fuels guilt for “needing too much.” But that guilt isn’t truth—it’s a symptom that hides the reality that loved ones often want to help. This fear can lead to silence or isolation, cutting off the very support that eases pain. Learning to accept help is not weakness; it’s part of healing. Everyone needs support at times, and giving and receiving care makes relationships stronger. Talking openly about these worries helps shrink their power. Remember that love isn’t measured by perfection but by connection. The people who care for you want to be part of your healing, not pushed away by your fear. Each small act of trust rebuilds belonging and shows that you deserve kindness as much as anyone else. Over time, this fear softens when you see that others stay, even when you can’t offer much back. You are not a burden—you are a human being needing rest, not rejection.
