Lesson Overview

6.4 – The Role of the Nervous System in Anxiety: Your nervous system is like the command center that controls how you react to danger or safety. When anxiety hits, your nervous system activates the “fight, flight, or freeze” response, sending signals that prepare your body to act. It releases adrenaline and speeds up your heart so you can move fast. But when this happens too often, your body starts to feel exhausted and jittery. Understanding your nervous system helps you know why anxiety feels so intense. You can learn to calm it through slow breathing, gentle movement, or grounding your senses. These techniques tell your brain that you’re safe, even if it doesn’t feel like it. When your nervous system learns to relax again, the waves of anxiety soften. It’s a reminder that your body and mind can work together to find balance.
