Course overview
Lesson Overview

13.14 – Depression and Social Withdrawal: When depression hits, isolation often follows. People pull away not because they don’t care, but because connection feels exhausting or pointless. Simple interactions can feel overwhelming, and shame convinces them others wouldn’t understand. Yet isolation deepens depression’s hold, creating a loop of loneliness and sadness. Social withdrawal makes it harder to receive love or support, even though that’s what’s needed most. Small steps—sending a message, sitting near others, or talking briefly—can help reconnect the mind to human warmth. Supportive people don’t need to fix anything; their presence alone helps heal. Depression tells you you’re a burden, but connection proves otherwise. Each time you reach out, even a little, you break depression’s illusion that you’re alone. Over time, small moments of connection rebuild trust in others and in yourself. The world becomes less distant, and belonging starts to grow again, piece by gentle piece, as human closeness reawakens the spirit.
