Lesson Overview

5.8 – Challenging All-or-Nothing Thinking: All-or-nothing thinking says things are either perfect or terrible, with no in-between. This mindset adds pressure and disappointment because life rarely fits into extremes. Challenging it starts by noticing the middle ground. Ask, “Is there something partly true?” or “What’s one thing that went okay?” Finding shades of gray builds emotional flexibility. You begin to see progress even when results aren’t perfect. This reduces anxiety, boosts motivation, and creates more realistic expectations. Practicing balanced thinking helps you appreciate effort, not just outcome. It trains your brain to see both success and growth, not just wins and losses.
